This month’s PLAY! box is themed “It’s Fall Good” and contains products from Algenist, Belif, Benefit, Sephora, and Urban Decay. I was excited by this month’s box for several reasons, starting with the bag. This month I received a beautiful satin bag that looks very luxe and polished, which isn’t always the case.
The three most recent boxes (June, July, & August) contained essentially the same bag in slightly different versions, so this was a welcome change. After opening the bag, I discovered two skincare products, three makeup products, and one hair product. I haven’t fully formed an opinion on all the products, but I’m always pleased to get products from my favorite brands (Benefit & Urban Decay), so I was excited.
Without further ado, let’s jump into it!:
- Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel (two sizes ranging in price from $12-$24)
Having purchased this product in the past, I can say with full confidence that this volumizing fiber gel from Benefit is a game changer. The fibers in this gel perfect accentuate your brows so that they look lush and plush and well groomed. I apply it as the final step to set my brows when I want them to look gorgeous and perfectly set.
2. Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick $18
Who doesn’t love a good liquid lipstick, especially one by Urban Decay? This liquid lipstick claims to be a waterproof, intensely pigmented liquid lipstick in a satin-matte brick rose shade (Amulet). What’s interesting is that there are tiny shimmers throughout, so I’m unsure about calling it matte. On a slightly dour note, this product received a 3-star rating on the website.
3. Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12hr Wear Waterproof in Black Lace $10
This black eyeliner is more of a filler product to me, especially because it’s Sephora’s own brand. But I’m not mad at it because now I have a backup eyeliner.
4. Algenist POWER Recharging Night Pressed Serum $95
The full size version of this retails for $95! I was about to say that I’m not very interested in it, but being that it’s a luxury product (with a near 5-star rating), I’m eager to see whether it measures up to the hype. This claims to be a highly concentrated solid serum that melts into skin to smooth and visually refine dull, uneven complexions. It’s made with Alguronic Acid that helps to regenerate and protect the skin. Safe to say, I can’t wait to try this.
5. Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb $38
I have never heard of this brand, nor have I heard of this product. Sephora claims this product is a refreshing gel-cream formula that drenches skin in a burst of cooling, light-as-a-feather moisture. It’s antioxidant-rich with botanical extracts from a leafy herb called lady’s mantle, and it’s oil-free and incredibly hydrating. Translation: it’s a moisturizer. My skin’s been parched so we’ll see how this remedies it.
Monthly Bonus: IGK Hot Girls Hair Shampoo and Conditioner $25 each
Sephora promises a “Fragrance Bonus” in each box, but this month, they changed the wording on the Play! pass to read “Monthly Bonus” instead. I was excited to get a hair product because I never use the tiny fragrance testers. This is actually a shampoo and conditioner from IGK (a brand I’d never heard of). I’ve now used the samples and to be honest, didn’t really do anything that a normal shampoo/conditioner doesn’t.
Also, the chemical coconut-y scent is very overpowering.
If I had to rate the September Play! box, I would rate it four stars out of five. I enjoyed the variety and received a couple of products I’m really excited to try. I hope to see you back when I receive and review next month’s box!
