The PLAY! By Sephora June Box is themed “Summer Starters,” providing five mini products that are “warm weather must-haves” to kick off summer. I was excited to receive products by Tarte, Bumble and Bumble, and Kat Von D in this box, but I do have some critiques about this box. Keep reading to get the low-down!
June 2017 – Summer Starters | As usual, I received a pass that gives me 50 extra beauty insider points when presented at Sephora, and a PLAY! Book that describes the theme of the box, explains the products, and offers tips on how to use them.
Each month’s box provides a collectible bag, and this is one of the cheapest bags I have ever received. It’s very reminiscent of the April bag in that it is essentially a cloth sack with an illustration. For being such a profitable, high-end company, Sephora does not let it show in the bags they send.
- MURAD Invisiblur Perfecting Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 30 (full-size price is $65)
This is a primer and sunscreen in one, and after years of trial and error I stay away from primers because they make my face itch (as does synthetic SPF), so this didn’t thrill me. I’ve also never personally experienced benefits from applying my base makeup over primer either.
2. BUMBLE AND BUMBLE Don’t Blow It (full-size price is $31)
This is a hair styling cream that supposedly enhances your hair’s natural texture and conditions strands for a polished look without a blow dryer. This is good news for me because I never blow dry my hair, so I will definitely scrunch this into towel-dried and report back.
3. KAT VON D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in K-Dub (full-size price is $20)
I love Kat Von D and love receiving lip products so I was exited when I saw this liquid lipstick by Kat Von D. The color is a little less wearable than I’d prefer (it’s sort of a cross between magenta and neon violet purple) but I’ll play with it none the less!
4. BRIOGEO Curl Charisma Rice Amino + Avocado Leave-In Defining Cream (full-size price is $20)
This styling cream claims to moisturize and fight frizz, and is packed with amino acid to enhance, shape, and define curls. I have already tried this once and didn’t notice much of a difference in my hair but I will try it again for sure. Kind of bummed that this and the Bumble and Bumble product are pretty similar though.
5. TARTE Tarteguard 20 Tinted Moisturizer in Medium (full-price size is $36)
I love Tarte but I’m pretty wary of this tinted moisturizer. Just like with primers and cosmetic SPF, tinted moisturizers also make my skin itchy/break out. I used to think tinted moisturizers would feel the lightest on my skin but it just isn’t so. Also, this has SPF too! The color is also slightly orange-y but I’ll definitely try it out.
MUGLER Alien
Last we have the fragrance bonus for this month, which is Alien by Mugler. To date I have not used a single fragrance bonus that has come in my box. I just don’t care for them.
So that’s it guys! This is the loot I received from Sephora for the month of June.
Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for next month’s box!
