Play! by Sephora October Box Reveal

This month’s PLAY! box is themed “Complexion Companions” and contains products from It Cosmetics, Makeup Forever, Sephora Collection, Sunday Riley, and Urban Decay.  All five products are complexion minis curated to provide “a flawless look that stays all day.”

Part of the Play! by Sephora pitch is that you get a different collectible bag each month, but it’s a rarity to receive a bag that differs from the one above. I’ve learned from experience that most of the time, all you really get are variations on a cloth sack.

That aside, let’s go through the products:

  1. Urban Decay Quick Fix Hydracharged Prep Priming Spray (two sizes ranging in price from $15-$30)

This is the ‘innovative” product of this month’s round-up. Essentially it’s a priming spray with an unnecessarily long name. According to Sephora, it is a “coconut-infused priming spray that hydrates, soothes, and minimizes the look of pores.” I like getting Urban Decay products but this honestly just sounds like an enriched mist of water.

2. Makeup Forever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation Y335 (full-size is $43)

If I hadn’t already tried Makeup Forever’s Ultra HD foundation, I probably would’ve been really overjoyed to receive this. This is the first time they’ve ever sent me a foundation, so thumbs up for that. However, the shade is too dark and orange-toned for me — plus I don’t really like the formula.

3. Sephora Collection Triple Action Cleansing Water (three sizes ranging in price from $6-$20)

According to Sephora this triple action cleansing water is a “no-rinse micellar cleansing water that removes makeup and impurities in one swipe.” I don’t know about you but that sounds pretty damn good to me. I’ve yet to hop on the micellar train so I’m excited to finally see what the hype is about.

4. Sunday Riley C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum (full-size is $85)

Sephora usually includes at least one skincare item per box, so October’s box contains a “brightening serum that smoothes and hydrates skin with vitamin C concentrate.” That description didn’t tell me a whole lot, but based on the site description, it increases brightness, radiance, and luminosity, which I can get onboard with. Plus, Sunday Riley is a very pricey high-end brand.

5. It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Full Coverage Anti-Aging Waterproof Concealer (full-size is $24)

This stuff is amazing. It blew me out of the water. It is one of the most full coverage underye concealers I have ever tried. It’s pigmented, it’s brightening, it’s just a miracle product. This is what I signed up to experience!

This month’s bonus: Gucci Bloom

RATING: A

I’m rating my October Play! Box an A because I really loved the Bye Bye Undereye Concealer by It Cosmetics and it’s a generous enough size to last me for a long time. If that weren’t in this box it’d probably sit at a B. I also like the fact that I get to try out products from some really high-end brands versus no-names.
